NOTRE DAME, Ind (seminoles.com) — Florida State, which has won five of its last six and 10 of its last 12 games since a 105-73 win over NC State on January 13, travels to play at Notre Dame in its final regular season game of the 2020-21 season. A victory over the Fighting Irish would earn the Seminoles their second straight regular season ACC Championship. Since the 2000 ACC season only three programs Duke, North Carolina and Virginia) have won multiple ACC regular season championships in consecutive seasons. Florida State arrives at Notre Dame having defeated Boston College, 93-64, on Senior Night at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Wednesday night. Following Saturday’s game at Notre Dame, the Seminoles will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to play in the 68th Annual ACC Tournament (March 9-13) at the Greensboro Coliseum. Florida State will begin play in the tournament on Thursday, March 11 after earning the coveted double bye for the third consecutive season.
FLORIDA STATE ANNOUNCES CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR BASKETBALL COACH LEONARD HAMILTON
Florida State University Vice President and Director of Athletics David Coburn announced on March 1 that Florida State has extended the contract with head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton through the 2024-25 season. “Coach Hamilton has done so much for this basketball program and this university that it is hard to express in words,” said Coburn. “What he does with his young men, both on and off the court, is truly remarkable. I know both the President and I regard him as a university treasure, and he is just now getting the national recognition he has deserved for so long. He embodies all the qualities that make a great leader, and we are proud and thrilled to have him as our coach as long as he wishes.” Hamilton’s student-athlete graduation rate of just over 95 percent at FSU will improve even more as eight members of his current team will earn degrees (seven as undergraduate degrees and one as a graduate degree) this spring. Two more players will earn graduate degrees in the summer of 2021. “I’ve known Coach Hamilton since he was hired in 2002 when I was chair of the FSU Board of Trustees,” said Florida State President John Thrasher. “He exemplifies the best of college basketball in terms of developing outstanding players and great citizens. His ability to perform his job at such a high level of excellence is appreciated by the Seminole faithful, and we’re thrilled Coach Hamilton will continue to lead our program.”
FLORIDA STATE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Florida State enters Saturday’s game at Notre Dame ranked No. 11 in this week’s Associated Press poll and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and are the highest ranked team in the ACC for the second consecutive week. The Seminoles’ ranking in the AP poll is tied for their highest of the season and marks the third consecutive season the Seminoles have been ranked in the top 11 of the AP Poll.

…Defeat Notre Dame and win the regular season championship of the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second consecutive season. The Seminoles won the first regular season championship in school history with a 16-4 conference mark during the 2019-20 season;
…Defeat Notre Dame and gain a win over the Fighting Irish at Purcell Pavilion for the second consecutive season. The Seminoles defeated Notre Dame by a 73-71 margin on March 4, 2020;
…Defeat Notre Dame and win its 12th ACC game of the season. It would mark the third consecutive year the Seminoles would have won at least 12 ACC games in a single season. Florida State was 13-5 in ACC play during the 2018-19 season and finished with a school record for ACC wins in a season with a 16-4 record in 2019-20.
